Once the sun comes out, everyone starts to show a little more skin to keep themselves cool. Since more of your skin will be exposed and on display, it’s important to efficiently prep your skin for the summer season. Here are a few tips to get a glowing complexion and smooth body for summer.

Exfoliate off that dead skin from spring. For a smoother shave, exfoliate your legs and body with a gentle product, such as Shinso Glow, and a washcloth or loofah. After exfoliating, follow up with a rich moisturizer.

Apply sunscreen every day. There’s nothing worse than getting a sunburn. It’s not only an eyesore and a literal pain, but sunburns are an indication of damage to your skin and can lead to skin cancer. Even on days that aren’t 100% sunny, it’s still crucial to apply SPF on your face and body. If you are forgetful, opt for a daily moisturizer or foundation with SPF built in.

Drink enough water. Your skin will be parched from the heat, sun and all of summer’s fun activities, so make sure you stay hydrated. Drinking enough water isn’t just good for your health, it also keeps your skin looking plump and full.

Spring is finally here, which means it’s time to swap out your typical beauty and skincare routine for something lighter.

Swap out darker blush colors for something lighter. Punchy pinks add a pop of color to your face, giving you that sun-kissed look. A coraly-pink shade looks good on just about every skin tone, so you can’t go wrong with that.

Layer up on the sunscreen. Many women forget to wear sunscreen in months that aren’t summer (possibly because the sun isn’t always as bright during this season), which can lead to sunspots, dry skin, and — in some cases — skin cancer. To ensure that you protect your face during spring, opt for a daily moisturizer with a high SPF in it. This way, you’ll only need to remember to moisturize in the morning instead of applying a thick sunscreen in addition to your typical beauty routine.

Switch from powders to creams. Powder-based skincare and beauty products are great for winter, but the arrival of spring begs for something creamier. Swap out powder blush and eyeshadow for creamier textures, which will glide on easier on your moisturized skin.

Exfoliate away winter. Use a gentle exfoliating product, like Shinso Glow, to remove all the dead skin and buildup from winter. This gives your face a beautiful canvas for spring.

Winter winds and cool temperatures can be harsh on your skin, making it dry and parched. It’s crucial to keep your skin moisturized always, but especially during this season. Here are a few easy ways to hydrate your skin in the winter.

In sounds simple enough, but make sure to drink enough water in the winter. Drinking water hydrates you from the inside out, and is crucial to keeping your skin moisturized and healthy. There are a few tricks to making sure you get your 8 recommended glasses a day. Start with an herbal tea in the morning if regular water is too plain or cold for you. Add all natural flavors to your water, like a squeeze of fresh lemon, to give make it tastier. Lastly, keep your water right next to where you are working or sleeping, so you’ll be reminded to drink up constantly throughout the day.

If the air is so dry that it’s affecting your skin, you may want to invest in a humidifier in your home- mainly your bedroom.

Slathering on moisturizer, serums and oils are great for winter skin. Layer the products so the moisturizer is on the bottom and a thicker serum is on top. This will trap in the moisture and make it penetrate into the skin quicker. Use products made especially for dry, damaged skin- they typically contain special ingredients that cannot be found in regular, daily skincare products.

We’re constantly bombarded with lists of things that are good for our skin, such as eating the right foods, using the right products and avoiding certain ingredients. But sometimes one of the most simple factors of good skin is often overlooked: sleep. Sleep is important not just for your health and well-being, but for your skin as well. They call it “beauty sleep” for a reason, right? Here are a few reasons why sleep is important for great skin.

  • It prevents a variety of beauty blunders. If you suffer from dark circles under your eyes, puffy eyelids, bloodshot eyes- just to name a few- it could be because you are not getting enough sleep. Simply sleeping more can reduce these issues with no makeup needed.
  • It can reduce stress. Not getting enough sleep can lead you to become cranky or extra stressed, which not only shows in your personality, but on your face as well. Many women breakout when stressed, which is not a fun thing to go through.
  • It’s free. Unlike expensive spa treatments or that hard-to-find nighttime skincare serum, sleep is free!
  • It lets your skin repair itself. While you sleep, your skin renews itself and repairs. New skin cells grow and replace older cells.
  • It helps to prevent aging and wrinkles. Lack of sleep leads to increased levels of stress hormones in the body. Chronic high levels of stress hormones in the body cause increased inflammation within the skin that subsequently leads to an acceleration of aging and wrinkles. f
