bookmark_borderHow to Look Like a Beauty Icon

Every woman has a beauty icon- someone who is so gorgeous and has their signature look that she wants to emulate on herself. For some, it’s Hollywood legends Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn, and for others it’s someone like their grandmother. Either way, one thing is for certain- all beauty icons have their signature look that gave them their title. Here are a few ways to look like a beauty icon.

To start off, you need a nice canvas to work with. Makeup goes on easier and looks its best when the skin is prepped properly. To get great skin, exfoliate a few times a week to get rid of dead skin, and then follow up with a rich moisturizer (you can use Shinso Glow and Essence for both of these routines). After following a skincare routine like this, you’ll start to see results after a few weeks. You’ll notice your makeup goes on easier and looks a lot better.

Next, it’s time to find shades that work with your hair, eyes and skintone. What makes a beauty icon stand out from regular women is that she knows these things and works with them to her advantage. If you have lighter hair, eyes and skintone, you generally are cool-toned. If you have darker hair, skin or eyes, you generally are warm-toned. Cool tones look best in silvery shades, like blues, purples and greens, while warm tones look best in gold shades, like reds, oranges and browns. If someone compliments you when wearing a certain shade of clothing or makeup, take notes. That is generally what works best for you.

Embrace your imperfections. Whether it’s a mole above your lip or very thick eyebrows, every woman has something unique and special about her appearance. Embrace it and make it work for you- it will become your “signature”, and all beauty icons have a signature.

Winter winds and cool temperatures can be harsh on your skin, making it dry and parched. It’s crucial to keep your skin moisturized always, but especially during this season. Here are a few easy ways to hydrate your skin in the winter.

In sounds simple enough, but make sure to drink enough water in the winter. Drinking water hydrates you from the inside out, and is crucial to keeping your skin moisturized and healthy. There are a few tricks to making sure you get your 8 recommended glasses a day. Start with an herbal tea in the morning if regular water is too plain or cold for you. Add all natural flavors to your water, like a squeeze of fresh lemon, to give make it tastier. Lastly, keep your water right next to where you are working or sleeping, so you’ll be reminded to drink up constantly throughout the day.

If the air is so dry that it’s affecting your skin, you may want to invest in a humidifier in your home- mainly your bedroom.

Slathering on moisturizer, serums and oils are great for winter skin. Layer the products so the moisturizer is on the bottom and a thicker serum is on top. This will trap in the moisture and make it penetrate into the skin quicker. Use products made especially for dry, damaged skin- they typically contain special ingredients that cannot be found in regular, daily skincare products.

bookmark_borderHow to Improve Circulation for Your Skin and Body

Proper circulation does wonders for both your skin and body, which is why it’s important to try a variety of tactics to achieve this. Your blood carries toxins, chemicals and pollutants throughout your body. When you don’t have proper circulation, these toxins aren’t removed properly and can cause illnesses that are reflected throughout your body and on your skin. It’s important to keep your circulation pumping at optimal levels to stay healthy and have great skin. Here are a few tips to improve your circulation for your skin and body.

  • Dry brush your skin. It may sound crazy, but dry brushing works. Dry brushing is the practice of scrubbing down your dry skin with a scratchy brush. Dry brushing works to brush off dead skin cells and activate waste removal via your lymph nodes at the same time. It can also work to reduce cellulite!
  • Snack on a little dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is rich in cocoa flavanols, plant compounds with antioxidant properties, which help hydrate skin and improve circulation.
  • Exercise. Exercise elevates the heart rate and pumps the blood faster throughout your body. As blood becomes oxygenated, it increases the circulation throughout your body, including to the skin. The increased blood supply helps bring toxins to the surface, where they can be cleared and cleansed, leaving skin glowing.
  • Drink enough water. Keep your body hydrated by getting 8 glasses per day. As you drink water, it flushes toxins from your body each time you urinate or sweat.

  • Yogurt. Yogurt is full of proteins to help firm the skin and keep it looking smooth. Try Greek yogurt and add some nuts or blueberries for extra taste.

bookmark_borderAre You an OTC Skincare Junkie?

If you find yourself doing one of the following, you may be an over-the-counter (OTC) skincare junkie.

  • You end up spending $100 on skincare products each drip to the drugstore.
  • At said drugstore, you go in to pick up a prescription and end up with 3 new cleansers.
  • You’ve exceeded your reward points due to all of the face creams you’ve bought.

The good news it that you can rid yourself of this habit of purchasing endless new items and overspending. One way to do this is to not base everything on looks. Oftentimes you are lured by the pretty packaging or sale prices at your local drugstore. If each trip (once a week) you purchase a new product (at $10 average), you are spending $520 a year on random skincare items. Instead of falling for these visual factors, realize that they are simply a marketing tactic and to resist the temptation.

Another way to avoid becoming an OTC skincare junkie is to do your research. Instead of aimlessly buying a product, you should spend some time reading reviews online to see if the product fits your skincare needs. Check multiple sites, as sometimes opinions can be biased or skewed.

You can also utilize samples (look for coupons in your favorite magazine or the company’s website) to see if you like the product prior to spending a lot of money on it. This is crucial for high-end products, since you won’t want to waste a pretty penny on something you may not like.

Higher-end skincare that cannot be found at the drugstore is generally made with higher-quality and safer ingredients. hence the price point. That $520 you spend on random skincare products that rarely work can instead be used for a yearly supply of a luxurious serum or specialized product.
