Every month a new product is hailed as a miracle that will banish wrinkles, zap cellulite or give you a bigger bust. But how many wonder lotions work? JENNY STOCKS asked two top dermatologists, Dr Nick Lowe, of the Cranley Clinic, and Dr Stefanie Williams, of Harley Street clinic Eudelo.com, to find out… THE FACELIFT IN A JAR Shinso Essence, £255, Shinsoskincare.com What is it? You may not have heard about this pricey facial serum, but it’s causing a stir in the U.S. — and Madonna is a big fan. Packed full of herbs, botanicals and Japanese sea water, it claims to work deep into the skin to boost collagen levels and reduce wrinkles. No wonder it’s flying off the shelves. Dr Williams’ verdict: ‘This product contains anti-ageing ingredients, such as Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (a muscle relaxer) and Human Oligopeptide-1 (promotes skin cell growth). ‘These ingredients are high on the ingredient list, so it’s likely they are present in sufficient concentration. ‘The instant-effects claim seems like an exaggeration, as it takes time to induce real changes in skin biology. ‘But, overall, a good product with beneficial ingredients.’
